Miley Cyrus “Lied Lightly” to Dolly Parton and the Surprising Outcome: Two New Songs Born from a Christmas JokeMay —Who would have thought that a small white lie could spark two new songs in Miley Cyrus’ upcoming album? In a recent interview on The Zane Lowe Show, the singer revealed that a little fib to her godmother — the legendary Dolly Parton — ended up being the catalyst for two
new tracks: “More to Lose” and “Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved.”

The “Killer” Question from the Queen of Country

The story began during Christmas two years ago when Miley visited Dolly and played her the song “Something Beautiful.” Dolly, with her sharp artist instinct, asked point-blank:

“Sounds good… Got any hits?”

Not wanting to disappoint, Cyrus quickly replied:

“I do! I have a song called ‘More to Lose.’”

The problem? She hadn’t written it yet. She had just thought of the title!

From a Lie to a Promise

Right after, Miley called up her songwriting partner Michael Pollack, urging:

“We have to write this song NOW.”
Pollack happened to have a melody already started with another writer, Autumn Rowe — and just like that, “More to Lose” was born within a few days at the beginning of the new year.

Once the song was ready, Miley shared it with Dolly, only to be hit with the same question again:

“Got any more?”

And so, the cycle continued.Miley suddenly remembered a title she had thought of: “Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved.” Even though she hadn’t written a single lyric or melody yet, she confidently “sold the idea.” Dolly not only loved the title but suggested it could be turned into a full brand!

“She was like, ‘This title is perfect. You should make it your everything — makeup line, perfume, handbags!’” Miley recalled, laughing. “I hadn’t even written the song yet!”

“Something Beautiful” — Born from Inspiration, Pressure, and Family Ties

Miley’s upcoming album, Something Beautiful, set to be released on May 30, 2025, marks a significant chapter in her music career and is a testament to the special bond between her and her godmother.Dolly Parton shared with People last year:

“I love Miley’s song ‘Flowers.’ She’s my little sweetheart. You know? My little goddaughter, so I feel very close to her.”

Now, fans will get to hear two new songs created out of a little lie, a lot of creativity, and a special family connection.🎵 “Something Beautiful” will be released globally on May 30, 2025, with a companion film. Will Dolly approve of Miley’s “spur-of-the-mom
