Key Glock Channels 2Pac with ‘Glockaveli’: A Bold Rebranding and a Tribute to Young Dolph

Key Glock is back and making waves with his major label debut, Glockaveli. The Memphis rapper, known for his trunk-rattling hits and Billboard Top 20 projects, took a brief hiatus in 2024 to realign personally and creatively. Now, he’s returned stronger than ever, signing with Republic Records and honoring a promise he made to his late cousin and mentor, Young Dolph.

Following Dolph’s tragic passing in 2021, Glock was encouraged to sign with a major label to elevate his career. With his new partnership, Glock not only keeps Dolph’s legacy alive but also expands his reach to a broader audience. “I feel like I exceeded my goals as an independent artist,” Glock told Billboard. “In this next chapter, I’m planning on getting platinum albums and more plaques.”

Released on May 2, Glockaveli is Glock’s fourth studio album, drawing inspiration from 2Pac’s iconic Makaveli persona. The album features the same trap-infused sound and motivational anthems that fans have come to love, with tracks like the soulful “Watch Da Throne” and the DJ Paul-produced “3AM in ToKEYo.”

Glock’s decision to channel 2Pac was born out of a plan he and Young Dolph had devised before Dolph’s passing. “Me and Young Dolph planned after my Yellow Tape series, I was going to do the Glockaveli stuff anyway,” Glock revealed. After taking time away from music to reset, he returned with a renewed focus and a stronger sound.

In an era of collaborations, Glock’s choice to feature no guest artists on Glockaveli is a testament to his self-confidence and determination to prove himself. “It’s a self-confidence thing,” he explained. “I have strong faith and belief in myself, and I just like proving people wrong.”

With a 20-city tour and another album on the horizon, Key Glock is poised for a breakout year. He sees this phase of his career as a “rebranding,” both personally and musically. As he embarks on this new chapter, Glock remains focused on his goals and driven to surpass his past achievements.

As for his future ambitions, Glock has hinted at a budding interest in acting and writing his own movie scripts. “Once I get addicted to writing and shooting my own movies, it’s over,” he said confidently.

Fans eagerly await the Glockaveli Tour, kicking off May 21, promising unexpected surprises and electrifying performances from the self-proclaimed rock star. As Key Glock continues to carve his path, one thing is clear: he’s just getting started, and the best is yet to come.
