The pain of her hometown’s decline weighed heavily on Reba, especially as she faced the impending loss of her mother.

Honoring a Legacy

After her mother’s passing, Reba felt a strong desire to honor her memory. She envisioned creating a space for music and her mother’s cherished collection of books. This dream resonated with Carol Irvin, a family friend and Atoka’s economic development director, who had been tirelessly working to revive the town.

A Collaborative Vision

Carol recognized that Reba’s dream could be the catalyst Atoka needed. The town had aspirations to transform one of its oldest buildings into a Reba-themed restaurant, but they needed Reba’s commitment. Initially hesitant, Reba soon realized the potential impact of her involvement.

Reviving Atoka

With the support of Chief Gary Batten of the Choctaw Nation, who agreed to share the renovation costs, Reba’s vision began to take shape. Despite challenges, including a dramatic incident where stairs collapsed during a visit, the restaurant opened its doors earlier this year.

The response was overwhelming. In just five months, Reba’s restaurant attracted 60,000 visitors, revitalizing the local economy and creating over 130 new jobs. This influx of visitors not only benefited the restaurant but also boosted other local businesses, from car repairs to grocery shopping.

A Bright Future

Atoka is now on the cusp of a remarkable transformation. Plans are underway for a multi-million dollar Bitcoin data center and a 120-room hotel, projected to inject $20 million into the local economy. Chief Batten emphasizes the importance of community support, stating, “If they don’t do well, we don’t do well.”
