Angel Reese Makes WNBA History: Sets Single-Season Rebounding Record in Sky’s Heartbreaking Loss to Lynx

MINNEAPOLIS – Angel Reese, the rising star of the WNBA, etched her name into the league’s history books by becoming the single-season rebounding leader. Despite the Chicago Sky’s narrow 79-74 loss to the Minnesota Lynx, Reese’s remarkable performance stole the spotlight.

A Record-Breaking Feat

Reese delivered an outstanding 17 points and 19 rebounds, marking her 24th double-double of the season—a new league rookie record. With 418 total rebounds (averaging 13.1 per game), she shattered Sylvia Fowles’ 2018 record of 404 rebounds. Additionally, Reese broke the offensive rebounding record with 165, surpassing Yolanda Griffiths’ 162 from 2001.

This season, Reese and A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces stand alone as the only players with at least four games scoring 15-plus points and grabbing 15-plus rebounds.

The Intensity of the Game

While Reese shined, the Chicago Sky couldn’t hold off the Minnesota Lynx’s offensive firepower. Courtney Williams led the Lynx with 22 points, while Kayla McBride and Napheesa Collier added 17 and 15 points, respectively. The Lynx, now 24-9, have been dominant post-Olympic break with an 8-1 record.

The Sky, on the other hand, suffered their sixth consecutive loss, falling to 11-21. They are now tied with Atlanta for the final playoff spot after the Dream defeated the Los Angeles Sparks later that evening.

A Thrilling Fourth Quarter

The Sky mounted a fierce comeback in the fourth quarter, going on an 11-2 run to tie the game at 62-all with 7:41 remaining. Diamond DeShields’ driving layup gave Chicago hope, but Williams quickly responded with back-to-back jumpers, sealing the win for the Lynx.

Looking Ahead

Despite the loss, Angel Reese’s record-breaking season is a testament to her incredible talent and potential. As the playoff race tightens, all eyes will remain on Reese as she continues to dominate the league and redefine what it means to be a rookie in the WNBA.
