Caitlin Clark will be playing her second WNBA season under a new head coach following the departure of Christie Sides.
The Indiana Fever opted to make a change at head coach during the offseason despite reaching the playoffs, bringing Stephanie White back in the hopes of getting the best out of the squad.
White, the 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year, played for the Fever and worked as both an assistant coach and head coach in Indiana before leaving for Vanderbilt and returning to the pros to take charge of the Connecticut Sun.
The former Purdue star reckons Clark and the rest of the team have what it takes to win multiple Championships. And she knows exactly what the Rookie of the Year has to do to make it a reality.
“She’s a great player, she’s a high IQ player, she’s adjusted really quickly to this league, and now it’s about becoming not just a great player, but becoming a great leader for this team,” White said on ‘The Coaching U Podcast,’ “So that we can win not just a championship, but championships.”
Stephanie White Has A Plan For Caitlin Clark
Sides was criticized throughout last season for her handling of Clark. While the Fever made it to the playoffs for the first time in eight years, they decided it was best to part ways.
White, meanwhile, was brought in on November 1 and is getting to know the squad.
She’s particularly keen on giving the Fever the most effective version of Clark.
“My first conversation with her about X’s and O’s the other day, I was just like, “How do you want to improve? What are some of the things you want to improve on?” And then we’ll talk about how we want to do that,” she added. “I talked to her about how we can use her to help her be more efficient, help her be more effective, to help our team be better in general.”
